WHAT ARE CAUSES OF EPILEPSY?
Epilepsy is a disease that occurs as a result of excessive electrical activity passing through many neuron cells in the brain. Epilepsy patients do not experience a single seizure. These patients regularly experience seizures. These attacks are different from person to person. Some epilepsy patients' bodies contract and other patients do not respond when they have a seizure. Epilepsy disease' causes are not all known. There are three specific known causes of epilepsy: brain tumors, fever, and traumatic seizures.
The incidence of epilepsy in patients with brain tumors is between 20% to 45%. There are many differences in these patients' data because their tumors' places are not identical. For this reason, the treatment of epilepsy patients with brain tumors is individual. In addition, epilepsy caused by brain tumors is resistant to medications. If doctors do not choose the correct medicine, patients might have a stroke. As a result, doctors follow individual treatment for epilepsy patients with brain tumors.
Febrile seizures are when the patient's temperature rises more than once. If a patient has a high fever for a long time and ıt often again and again, the patient might be an epilepsy patient. Febrile seizures cause epilepsy to occur at an early age because children and babies usually experience fever disease. Moreover, these seizures constitute a risk of infection for the patient, and infection is one of the other reasons for epilepsy. Parents should be careful when their children have a fever, so febrile seizures are a significant cause of epilepsy.
In many traffic accidents today, head trauma occurs due to damage to the head. Electrical disorders may occur in head trauma. This reason also causes epilepsy. Some medicines are used in the treatment of epilepsy after brain trauma. The most effective of these medicines is Phenytoin. However, it does not cure the patient completely. Therefore, head injuries trigger epilepsy.
Brain tumors, fever, and traumatic seizures are three causes of epilepsy. Treatments for brain tumor patients with epilepsy are specific to them. Doctors should apply different treatments for patients. Parents should care about their children when their children have fever. As a conclusion, the three factors of epilepsy occur in different situations.
